Output

What it does

Current layer

Applies the Neural Filter directly to the active layer, replacing its pixels.

New layer

Creates a duplicate layer with the filter applied independently of the original.

New layer masked

Duplicates the layer with a mask isolating the filter effect for easy masking and blending.

Smart filter

Converts the layer to a Smart Object and applies the filter non-destructively as a Smart Filter.

New document

Opens a new Photoshop document containing only the filtered result.

When to use each option

  • Current layer: For edits that do not require preserving original pixels or non-destructive editing.
  • Smart filter: For non-destructive workflows with adjustable settings.
  • New layer masked: For manual control over blending or precise masking.
  • New document: For using the filtered result as the start of a new file.
  • New layer: For simple edits while keeping the original layer intact.
