Convert text to shapes or work paths

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Transform text into editable vector shapes or work paths in Adobe Photoshop to create custom designs and special effects with your typography.

Converting text to shapes permanently changes your text layer into a vector shape layer. This method is best when you want to modify letter shapes directly.

Converting text to work paths creates a separate path in the Paths panel while keeping your original text layer intact. This method is best when you want to use text outlines for selections or effects..
