Add frames to animations

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Add new frames to your timeline to create dynamic animations, allowing you to build frame-by-frame sequences in Adobe Photoshop.

Select Window > Timeline to open the Timeline panel if it's not already visible.

Make sure the Timeline panel is in Create Frame Animation mode. If you see Create Video Timeline, select the down arrow icon, select Create Frame Animation from the dropdown and then select the Create Frame Animation button.

Select the Duplicate Selected Frames icon and use the Layers panel to modify the content of the new frame by changing layer visibility, position, opacity, or other properties.

Tip

To add a new layer for each new frame, select the panel menu (icon will be added here) icon and select Create New Layer for Each New Frame in the Timeline panel.

After adding frames, you can further enhance your animation by adjusting frame delay times, setting looping options, or using the Tween feature to create intermediate frames between two existing frames.
