Learn how to process multiple files at once in Adobe Photoshop and save them to your chosen location or back to their original folders.
The Batch command automates repetitive editing by running an action on groups of files. It saves you time by handling large sets of images in a single workflow.
Select the action you want to use from the Set and Action dropdown menus. Load the correct set in the Window > Actions panel if your action isn't visible.
Select the source files from the Source dropdown menu:
- Select Folder to process files in a chosen folder. Select Choose to locate it.
- Select Import to process images from a camera, scanner, or PDF.
- Select Opened Files to process all currently open files.
- Select Bridge to process selected files in Adobe Bridge, or all files in the current Bridge folder if none are selected.
Select the Override Action "Open" Commands to process your selected files instead of the file recorded in the action.
Select Include All Subfolders to process files in subdirectories of the specified folder.
Select Suppress File Open Options Dialogs to hide dialog boxes when processing camera raw files, using the default or previously set options.
Select Suppress Color Profile Warnings to turn off the display of color policy messages.
Select where to save files in the Destination dropdown:
- None (leave open)
- Save and Close (overwrite originals)
- Folder (save to a chosen location)
Select OK to run the batch process.
Open the destination folder (or original files if you have selected Save and Close) to verify that all files were processed and saved correctly.
Batch-process files in nested folders into different formats
Use this procedure to sharpen, resize, and save images as JPEGs in their original folders. Create an action with these steps, then batch-process it by selecting Include All Subfolders, setting the destination to Save and Close, and selecting Override Action “Save As” Commands.
Process your folders until the Destination step.
Select Save and Close as the destination.
Select Override Action “Save As” Commands to:
- Use the document’s name instead of any filename recorded in the Save As step.
- Save files in their original folders instead of the folder recorded in the Save As step.
Ensure your action includes a Save As step, as files won’t save automatically without it.
Select OK to run the batch process.
