UI option
Understand Export As options and preferences in Adobe Photoshop to adjust export settings and choose where assets are saved.
File Settings
|
|
Description |
|
Format |
PNG, JPG, GIF, or SVG options are available for exported files. |
|
PNG
|
Transparency generates 32-bit assets. Smaller File generates 8-bit assets. With both deselected, 24-bit assets are generated. |
|
JPG |
The quality slider (1%–100%) adjusts the balance between file size and image quality. Higher values preserve detail but increase file size. |
|
GIF |
Images are transparent by default. |
|
SVG |
Images are vector-based and scale without losing quality. |
Image Size
|
UI option |
Description |
|
Width |
Dimensions of the image asset. Width and height are locked together by default, changing one adjusts the other proportionately. |
|
Scale |
Choose how big the exported image should be. This option is helpful for exporting assets with larger or smaller resolutions. Changing the scale impacts image size. |
|
Resample |
Bilinear: Averages surrounding pixel colors to add pixels, producing medium-quality results. Bicubic: Complex calculations on surrounding pixels for slower, more precise results with smoother tonal gradations. Bicubic Smoother: Enlargement of images with Bicubic interpolation, designed to create smoother results. Bicubic Sharper: Reduction of image size with Bicubic interpolation while enhancing sharpness. Bicubic can be used if over-sharpening occurs. Bicubic Automatic: Automatic selection of the most suitable Bicubic method for the image. Nearest Neighbor: Replication of pixels for fast but less precise results, best for illustrations with hard edges, but may create jagged effects when scaled. Preserve Details: Preservation of sharpness and detail when resizing an image. |
Canvas Size
The dimensions for the exported asset are set. The Export As dialog centers the image within these bounds. Use this for icons that must fit within fixed boxes (such as 50×50 px) or banners that need exact dimensions.
- If the image is larger than the canvas, it clips to the set width and height.
- If the canvas is larger, extra space fills with:
- White (with a background layer)
- Transparency (if no background and format support it)
- The final swatch in the color table (for Indexed Color mode)
- Reset restores the values set in Image Size.
