Create a selection around a selection border

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

The Border command lets you select a width of pixels inside and outside an existing selection border. This is useful for isolating a band of pixels around an image area, such as cleaning up halo effects around a pasted object.

Use a selection tool to make a selection.

Choose Select > Modify > Border.

Enter a value between 1 and 200 pixels for the border width.

Select OK.

The new selection surrounds the original area and is evenly centered on its border. For example, a border width of 20 pixels creates a selection that extends 10 pixels inside and 10 pixels outside the original border.
