Learn how to access Smart Object details, including file path, dimensions, and position, in Adobe Photoshop.

Linked Smart Objects in Photoshop maintain connections to external source files, allowing updates to be reflected across all documents. Viewing these properties helps you manage links and perform everyday actions.

Select Window > Layers.

Select the Linked Smart Object layer in the Layers panel.

Select Window > Properties to open the Properties panel.

Review the linked Smart Object properties displayed in the panel.

A Photoshop document shows a selected Smart Object layer with link, size, and position details in the Properties panel.
Manage the Smart Object’s settings to maintain a consistent layout.

The Properties panel shows the file path of the external source, the Smart Object’s size, and its position (X, Y) in the document.

Tip

From the Properties panel, you can edit the source image (Photoshop will open the right app, such as Adobe Illustrator for AI files) or embed the linked Smart Object into your document.
