Edit images with Generative Fill

Last updated on Oct 27, 2025

Use text prompts to add or remove content non-destructively with Generative Fill in Photoshop on desktop.

With Generative Fill, you can add, remove, or modify images. You can also enter text prompts to add objects and design elements to an image or when working with a blank canvas.

Choose between Adobe Firefly models or partner AI models to power your Generative Fill edits.

Note
  • Generative Fill with Adobe Firefly model is a standard feature and deducts 1 credit per generation.
  • Generative Fill with partner AI models is a premium feature and deducts 10 credits per generation.

Select the area where you want to add, remove, or modify content using any selection tool, like the Selection Brush tool.

Select Edit > Generative Fill.

Select Choose an Adobe Model from the Contextual Task Bar and then your preferred AI model.

Adobe models:

  • Firefly Fill & Expand (beta)
  • Firefly Image 3
  • Firefly Image 1

Partner models:

  • FLUX.1 Kontext [pro]
  • Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana)

Type a description of what you want to see created into the prompt text-entry box.

Select Generate and choose from the Variations that appear in the Properties panel. The generated content will appear in a new layer.

Modify the text prompt and select Generate in the Properties panel, to generate additional variations.
