AI Assistant Editor is a beta feature in Adobe Photoshop on desktop now available for testing and feedback.
AI Assisted Editor is a focused, prompt-based editing mode inside Photoshop. The canvas takes center stage, the most-used generative tools sit up front, and a prompt bar is always there so you can edit in natural language at any time. It hides unnecessary panels so you can move quickly on ideas and edits, then you can toggle to Pro Editor whenever you want the full toolset.
AI Assisted Editor is for users new to Photoshop, and existing users who want a focused editor for prompt-based edits and AI tools. AI Assisted Editor is optional for those who are experienced with Photoshop and prefer the tools they already know in Pro Editor.
Yes. Toggle in the top left of the Photoshop canvas to switch to Pro Editor, which is full Photoshop. Every tool, panel, and shortcut you rely on is constantly innovated and updated to precision tools. New Photoshop users will land in AI Assisted Editor as their first experience and existing users can switch into it or out of it any time.
When you toggle to select AI Assisted Editor, it creates a flattened copy of your image for prompt-based edits. Your original file and layers in Pro Editor are not affected. Switching back to Pro Editor will paste your changes as a new generative layer.

No, AI Assisted Editor is a simplified, AI-first workspace where users can make edits using natural language. AI Assistant is a tool that can perform multi-step edits on the user's behalf or provide guidance.
Workspaces are preset layouts that change which panels and tools are visible and how they're arranged in Pro Editor. They reorganize how the tools are laid out on your screen and can be accessed directly from Window > Workspace. AI Assisted Editor is a separate, prompt-based mode where you describe an edit in plain language and Photoshop carries it out.
It is available to all current Photoshop subscribers who have updated to the latest build on August 19.
Using features in the AI Assisted Editor will deduct varying amounts of credits depending on the feature. The Generative Credits FAQ provides information about how generative credits work, and Creative Cloud Generative AI Features lists the generative AI features that use credits.
Users can check their credit balance at any time through the Generative Credits Usage planner in the top right corner of Photoshop.
