Create and control adjustment and fill layers for non-destructive edits, precise color refinement, and creative effects.

Create an adjustment layer

In adjustment layers, apply color and tonal corrections (like brightness, contrast, or vibrance) without permanently changing pixel data.

Select File > Open to browse and select an image.

In the Layers panel, select Create new fill or adjustment layer and choose an option:

  • Color & Vibrance: Enhances muted colors
  • Brightness/Contrast: Lightens/darkens and increases contrast
  • Levels: Adjusts shadows, midtones, highlights
  • Curves: Finetunes tonal range with curve control
  • Exposure: Corrects exposure, offset, gamma
  • Hue/Saturation: Shifts colors, adjusts saturation
  • Color Balance: Changes overall color cast
  • Black & White: Converts to monochrome, adjusts tones
  • Photo Filter: Applies warming/cooling lens effects
  • Channel Mixer: Rebalances color channels
  • Color Lookup: Applies cinematic/creative looks
  • Selective Color: Adjusts specific color ranges
  • Invert: Reverses colors (negative effect)
  • Posterize: Reduces image to flat color levels
  • Threshold: Converts to high-contrast black and white
  • Gradient Map: Maps tones to gradient colors
  • Solid Color: Fills with a single color
  • Gradient: Fills with a smooth gradient blend
  • Pattern: Fills with a repeated design

In the Properties panel, adjust the sliders to adjust the colors, tones, or other settings.

Name the layer, set layer options, and press Enter (or Return on macOS).
