Last updated on Oct 22, 2026

Learn how to use the Create Object Mosaic command in Adobe Illustrator to turn a bitmap image into a grid of vector tiles.

Mosaics with more tiles create larger files and use more memory. Before you start, make sure your system has enough memory for the number of tiles you plan to use.

Create the mosaic

Select the embedded bitmap image using the Selection tool.

Select Object > Create Object Mosaic.

Enter new values and the options you want in the Create Object Mosaic dialog box.
