Create and manage print presets

Last updated on Oct 25, 2026

Learn how to create, apply, edit, import, export, and delete print presets in Adobe Illustrator.

Save frequently used print settings as print presets to produce consistent output and avoid configuring the same print options each time you print.

Print presets store all settings from the Print dialog box, including printer selection, page setup, color management, and output options. You can reuse presets for different print workflows and export them to share with service providers or team members.

Create a print preset

Select File > Print.

Select the Save Preset icon.

Type a name for the preset in the Save Print Preset dialog box and then select OK.

Configure your print settings, including printer selection, artboard options, and output preferences.

Select Done.

Tip

You can also create presets by selecting Edit > Print Presets, then selecting the New icon.

Presets created from the Print dialog box are stored in the preferences file. Presets created through the Edit menu are stored in the same location but can be exported for backup or sharing.

Apply a print preset

Select File > Print.

Select a preset from the Print Preset menu.

Review the settings to confirm they match your requirements.

Select Print to output your document.

Edit a print preset

Select Edit > Print Presets.

Select a preset from the list, and then select the Edit icon.

Configure your print settings, including printer selection, artboard options, and output preferences.

Select OK to save the preset.

Select OK.

Note

You can edit the default preset using the same steps. Changes to the default preset affect all new documents until you modify it again.

Alternatively, you can edit presets directly from the Print dialog box by selecting File > Print, adjusting settings, selecting the Save Preset icon, and using the current preset name. This overwrites the existing preset with your new settings.

Delete print presets

Select Edit > Print Presets.

Select one or more presets from the list. Shift-click to select adjacent presets or Ctrl-click (Windows), or Command-click (macOS) to select non-adjacent presets.

Select the Delete icon.

Select OK.

Export print presets

Select Edit > Print Presets.

Select one or more presets to export. Shift-click to select adjacent presets or Ctrl-click (Windows), or Command-click (macOS) to select non-adjacent presets.

Select Export.

Type a name for the preset file, and select a location to save it.

Select Save.

Select OK.

Tip

Save exported presets outside Illustrator's preferences folder so they're available if you reset your preferences.

Import print presets

Select Edit > Print Presets.

Select Import.

Locate and select the .flst file.

Select Open.

Select OK to close the Print Presets dialog box.

View print settings summary

Select File > Print.

Select Summary in the Print dialog box.

Review all output settings to verify they're correct for your print job.

Optionally, select Save Summary to export the settings as a text file for your records.

Accept the default filename or type a new name, and then select Save.

Select OK to close the Print dialog box.

The Summary panel shows all current print settings, including OPI replacement settings and other advanced options that may affect output quality.
