Draw pixel-perfect art

Last updated on Oct 25, 2026

Learn to create pixel-perfect artwork for sharp display on screens.

Pixel-perfect artwork aligns paths and anchor points to the pixel grid to produce sharp, crisp graphics and prevent blurry edges caused by anti-aliasing. It is ideal for graphics used on the web, on mobile devices, and in user interface designs.

You can apply pixel alignment to entire objects, individual path segments, and anchor points. Illustrator lets you align existing artwork, enable real-time pixel snapping, and configure snapping options, with Web and Mobile document profiles supporting pixel grid alignment by default.

Align existing objects to the pixel grid

Select the object with the Selectiontool, or select horizontal or vertical path segments with the Direct Selection tool.

Choose one of the following:

  • Select Object > Make Pixel Perfect.
  • Select Align Selected Art To Pixel Grid in the Control panel.
  • Right-click the object and select Make Pixel Perfect.
Note

To align only specific segments rather than an entire object, use the Direct Selection tool to select horizontal or vertical path segments before applying pixel alignment.

Enable snap to pixel for drawing and transforming

Select View > Snap To Pixel to enable real-time pixel snapping.

Select the Snap To Pixel icon in the Control panel, then select the arrow to open Pixel Snapping Options.

  • Snap To Pixel While Drawing – Aligns new paths.
Draw an object aligned to the pixel grid

  • Snap To Pixel While Moving – Keeps objects aligned while moving.
  • Snap To Pixel While Scaling – Aligns edges while scaling.

Select OK.

Note

Objects without vertical or horizontal segments cannot be aligned to the pixel grid. Diagonal or curved paths that don't include straight horizontal or vertical segments will not be modified by pixel alignment operations.

When Snap To Pixel is enabled, objects snap to whole-pixel values while you draw, move, or scale them.

View the pixel grid

Select View > Pixel Preview to display how the artwork will render on screen.

Zoom to at least 600% to display the pixel grid.

To hide the grid, go to Illustrator > Settings > Guides & Grid (macOS) or Edit > Preferences > Guides & Grid (Windows), then clear the Show Pixel Grid (Above 600% Zoom) option.
