Organize and manage Illustrator cloud documents

Last updated on Oct 22, 2026

Learn how to create folders, rename, move, delete, restore, and share your Adobe Illustrator cloud documents to keep your work organized.

Organize your Illustrator cloud documents to streamline your workflow and quickly find the files you need. Use folders to group related documents, switch views for easier browsing, and rename, move, delete, or duplicate documents as your project changes.

These tools are available in Illustrator on desktop and on the Creative Cloud website. Changes you make in either location sync automatically. Before you organize a document, save it to the cloud. Local documents must be converted first.

Create folders for cloud documents

Use folders to group related cloud documents and keep your projects organized.

On the Illustrator Home screen, select Your files.

Select Add at the top-right corner in the Your files panel and select Create folder.

Type a folder name and press Enter or select Save.

You can create folders inside folders to build a structure that matches how you organize your projects.

Change how you view your documents

Switch between thumbnail and list views to browse your documents more efficiently.

On the Illustrator Home screen, select Your files.

Select the Grid or List view icon to toggle the display of documents.

Grid view helps you visually identify documents, while list view shows more information about each file.

Rename, move, and delete documents

On the Illustrator Home screen, select Your files.

Select the More options icon on the artwork thumbnail.

Choose one of the following:

  • Rename to change the document name. Type a new name and press Enter.
  • Move to relocate it to a different folder. Select the destination folder and select Move here.
  • Delete to move the document to the Deleted folder on the Home screen.

Deleted cloud documents are moved to the Deleted folder, where they remain for 30 days before Illustrator permanently removes them.

Restore or permanently delete cloud documents

On the Illustrator Home screen, select Deleted from the left pane.

Hover over the document you want to manage, and select the checkbox that appears.

Select Restore to return the document to its original location, or select Delete permanently to remove it.

Alert

Once you permanently delete a cloud document, you can't recover it.

Duplicate a cloud document

Use Duplicate to create a copy of a cloud document without affecting the original.

Go to assets.adobe.com and sign in to your Adobe account.

In Files, hover over the document you want to copy, and select the More options icon.

Select Duplicate.

Copying cloud documents is available only on the Creative Cloud website. Illustrator creates a copy in the same folder. You can rename or move the copy just as you would any other cloud document.

Share a cloud document link

Generate a shareable link when you need to give others access to a cloud document.

Hover over the cloud document, and select More options icon.

Select Copy link.

Share the generated link with collaborators.

Illustrator copies a link to your clipboard that you can share with collaborators. Recipients get access based on the permissions you've set for the document.
