Work with cloud documents offline

Last updated on Oct 22, 2026

Learn how to identify sync status, make Adobe Illustrator cloud documents available offline, and handle conflicts when you reconnect.

Working offline lets you keep creating and editing Illustrator cloud documents when you don't have an internet connection. Illustrator syncs cloud documents automatically while you're online, but you can also make specific documents available offline before you disconnect.

Understand cloud document sync states

Illustrator shows an icon next to each cloud document to indicate its sync status:

  • Online-only – The document is stored in the cloud and needs an internet connection to open
  • Available offline – The document is downloaded to your device and opens without an internet connection
  • Conflict file – Illustrator found conflicting edits made while offline and created a backup file so you don't lose any changes

When you reconnect after working offline, Illustrator automatically syncs your changes to the cloud. If conflicting edits were made on different devices, the conflict file's icon updates once your changes finish syncing.

Make a cloud document available offline

On the Illustrator Home screen, select Your files.

Locate the document you want to make available offline.

Select the Online-only icon on the artwork thumbnail to make the document available for offline editing.

Illustrator downloads the document to your device, and the icon next to it changes to show it's available offline. You can now open and edit the document without an internet connection. When you reconnect, your changes sync automatically.

Note

If you open a cloud document shortly before you lose your connection, Illustrator keeps a temporary local copy available even if you haven't marked it offline. For documents you plan to use offline regularly, mark them as described above so they stay available.
