Apply a Hue or Saturation adjustment

Open your image in the Adobe Photoshop and select the layer to adjust.

Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation to create an adjustment layer.

In the New Layer dialog, adjust the following setting:

  • Name: Type the name of the new layer.

Select Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask checkbox to limit adjustments to the layer below.

  • Color: Apply a uniform tint across the image.
  • Mode: Define how the adjustment blends with image colors.
  • Opacity: Control the transparency of the adjustment.

In the Properties panel, move the sliders to adjust:

  • Hue: Change the color tones.
  • Saturation: Adjust the color intensity.
  • Lightness: Modify the color brightness.

Select the Colorize checkbox to apply a single, uniform color to the entire image.

Finetune the adjustment as needed and view real-time changes on the canvas.

Note

Select Reset to adjustment defaults from the Properties panel to undo a Hue/Saturation adjustment.

The Adjust Color Pinwheel and the sliders of Hue, Saturation, and Lightness are displayed in the Contextual task bar with different color selections.
Select the color as per your choice from the Adjust color pinwheel.

Choose a color. A window with Hue, Saturation, and Lightness sliders appears directly on the canvas.

Drag the sliders to adjust the selected color and see real-time updates on the image.

To target another color, select the Eyedropper tool from the Contextual Task bar and select the color in your image.

Work with the Hue/Saturation adjustment panel

Open the Hue/Saturation adjustment panel from the Properties panel.

Use the sliders and larger color swatches to refine your edits with precision.

View a before-and-after comparison on the swatch when a color is edited.

Use the Color Range tool to refine adjustments to specific targeted areas.

Tip

The Adjustment panel shows sliders along with a color wheel in degrees. The inner vertical sliders define the editable range, while the outer triangular sliders apply a fall-off, creating a smooth, feathered adjustment rather than an abrupt change.
