View cloud document version history

Last updated on Oct 6, 2026

Use the Version History panel to browse, mark, and restore previous versions of your cloud documents.

Track changes to your cloud documents and restore earlier versions when needed.

The Version History panel displays automatically saved versions of your cloud documents. Use it to review changes, mark important milestones, or restore a previous state of your work. This feature requires Photoshop 2023 (version 24.0) or later and works only with documents saved to Creative Cloud.

Open the Version History panel

Open a cloud document in Photoshop.

Select File > Version History or Window > Version History.

The Version History panel displays thumbnails of saved versions in chronological order, with the most recent version at the top. Each thumbnail shows a preview of the document at that point in time.

Mark and name versions

In the Version History panel, locate the version you want to mark.

Select the Mark version icon to bookmark that version and move it to the Marked Versions section at the top of the panel.

To add a descriptive name, select the three dots icon next to the marked version and choose Name this version.

Enter a name and optional description in the dialog box, then select Save.

Tip

Named and marked versions make it easier to find important milestones in your project. You can rename or unmark versions at any time by selecting the three dots icon.

Search and filter versions

In the Version History panel, use the search field to find versions by name or description.

Select the filter icon to display versions from specific time ranges or show only marked versions.

Select the filter criteria from the available options.

To remove a version from the Marked Versions section, select the Mark version icon again. This also removes any custom naming.

Open a version in a new tab

In the Version History panel, locate the version you want to open.

Select the three dots icon next to the version thumbnail.

Select Open in a new tab.

Opening a version in a new tab creates a separate document without affecting your current working file. You can compare versions side by side or extract elements from earlier iterations.

Revert to a previous version

In the Version History panel, locate the version you want to restore.

Select the three dots icon next to the version thumbnail.

Select Revert to this version.

Alert

Reverting moves the selected version to the top of the version history as the current state. Any work completed after that version remains accessible in the version history but is no longer active in your document.
