Learn how to restore missing tools to the toolbar in Adobe Photoshop.

Some tools appear to be missing from the toolbar in Photoshop.

Photoshop saves toolbar customization settings with your preferences and workspace. These settings can affect which tools appear in the toolbar.

Cause

Tools may be missing from the toolbar in the following situations:

  • You updated Photoshop but retained your previous Preferences or Workspace settings, so newer tools aren't included.
  • You switched to another workspace from Window > Workspace.

Restore the toolbar defaults

Remedy

Restore the default toolbar configuration to bring back missing tools.

  1. Select Edit > Toolbar.
  2. Select Restore Defaults.

Reset or switch back to the Essentials workspace

Remedy

Switch to the default Essentials workspace or reset it to restore the toolbar configuration.

  1. Select Window > Workspace.
  2. Select Essentials (Default) or Reset Essentials.
The Window > Workspace menu shows options to select or reset the Essentials workspace.
Reset to the Essentials workspace from Window > Workspace.

Customize the toolbar

  1. Select Edit > Toolbar.
  2. In the Customize Toolbar dialog, locate the missing tool in the Extra Tools list.
