Learn how to toggle the visibility of guides, grids, and selection edges in Photoshop desktop using the View menu commands or keyboard shortcuts.
Extras are non-printing visual aids, including guides, grids, selection edges, slices, text baselines, and color samplers. These tools help you position, select, and edit elements without appearing in your final output. You can control their visibility individually or as a group without affecting your image data.
Toggle Extras visibility when you need to balance precision with an unobstructed canvas view. Show them for precise alignment tasks, hide them when evaluating color and composition, or when preparing screenshots of your work.
Toggle all enabled Extras
Press Ctrl + H (Windows) or Command + H (macOS) as a keyboard shortcut.
Show or hide individual Extras
Select View > Show to open the submenu.
Select the specific Extra you want to control, such as Guides, Grid, Selection Edges, Slices, or Smart Guides.
Select the same menu item again to toggle visibility off.
Individual Extras have dedicated keyboard shortcuts for faster access. Press Ctrl + ' (Windows) or Command + ' (macOS) to toggle guides, or Ctrl + ; (Windows) or Command + ; (macOS) for the grid.
Turn all Extras on or off
Select View > Show > All to enable and display all available Extras simultaneously.
Select View > Show > None to disable and hide all Extras at once.
Note
Color samplers respond to the Extras, All, and None commands even though they don't appear as a separate option in the Show submenu.
For more control over which Extras appear together, select View > Show > Show Extra Options to configure custom groups of visual aids that match your workflow needs.
