Print settings option unavailable in Print dialog box

Last updated on Oct 4, 2026

Learn how to resolve an unresponsive Print Settings button in the Adobe Photoshop Print dialog box.

The Print Settings button doesn't respond when you select Printer Manages Color in the Photoshop Print dialog box.

Cause

This issue can occur when you use an older printer driver, when files have been printed with an older printer driver, or when the printer driver's preferences are damaged.

Clear saved print settings from your file

Open your image.

Hold Spacebar and select File > Print.

Set Color Handling to the desired setting.

Select Print Settings.

Toggle Color Handling setting

Select File > Print, and change Color Handling to Printer Manages Colors.

Change Color Handling back to Photoshop Manages Colors.

Select Print Settings.

Remove the printer and reinstall the most recent driver (macOS)

Open System Preferences, navigate to Printers & Scanners, and remove all printers of the same brand.

Navigate to [Macintosh HD]/Library/Printers/ and move your printer's brand folder to the Trash.

Note

The Printers folder is in the System Library folder, not the User Library folder under your user name.

Go to your printer manufacturer's website, and download and install the most recent printer driver compatible with your version of macOS.

Open System Preferences, navigate to Printers & Scanners, and select the + icon to add your printer.

Select Print Settings to verify that the button responds.

Set another printer as the default printer (Windows)

Quit Photoshop.

If your printer is the Windows default printer, set a different printer as the default.

See How to set a default printer in Windows 10.

Select File > Print, change Color Handling to Photoshop Manages Colors, select Print Settings, and then select Done or OK.

Quit Photoshop.

Set your previous printer as the default printer in Windows.

Open an image and select File > Print.

Select Print Settings.

Update your printer driver (Windows)

Quit Photoshop.

Go to your printer manufacturer's website, and download and install the most recent printer driver compatible with your version of Windows.

Open Photoshop, open an image, and select File > Print.

Select Print Settings.
