Place Photoshop files in InDesign

Learn how to use the Place command in Adobe Photoshop on desktop to import files while preserving layers, effects, and editability.

Use the Place command to import Photoshop (PSD) files in InDesign. InDesign creates a link to the original PSD file instead of embedding it, so when the PSD file is updated, you can update the placed graphic in your InDesign file.

Select an existing frame. If no frame is selected, InDesign creates one when you place the graphic.

Select File > Place.

Browse and select your Photoshop file.

Select the Show Import Options checkbox in the Place dialog to control layer visibility, layer comps, or color settings during import.

Select Open to place the file. The Import Options dialog box appears.

Make any necessary adjustments, then select OK.
