Learn how to detect and automatically blur backgrounds in Adobe Photoshop on desktop.

Draw attention to your subject and add depth to images photos by blurring their background and mimicking a shallow depth-of-field effect.

The Blur background quick action works best when your subject clearly stands out from the background. The effect applies non-destructively, creating a separate layer you can refine or remove later.

For manual control over blur placement and intensity, select Filter > Blur Gallery and use the Blur Gallery filters.

Apply background blur

Select the search icon in the upper-right corner or press Ctrl + F (Windows) or Command + F (macOS) to open the Discover panel.
