Learn how to use quick actions to instantly add dreamlike brushstrokes and vibrant color effects to your photos in Adobe Photoshop.
Transform photos into surreal, painterly artwork with vibrant colors and expressive brushstrokes inspired by post-impressionist masterpieces.
The Swirling night sky filter, available from the QUICK ACTIONS group in the Discover panel, automatically applies artistic brushstroke and color effects to your selected layer.
Apply the filter through quick actions
Access the Discover panel in Photoshop using the Search icon at the upper right of the app workspace, or press Ctrl + F (Windows) or Command + F (macOS).
In the Discover panel, search for Swirling night sky, and then select Swirling night sky filter from the QUICK ACTIONS group.
If this is your first time using the action, select Download to install the swirling night sky filter and neural filter options, and then select Apply once the download completes.
Select Apply to transform your image with brushstrokes and color effects.
Tip
To apply the effect to a different layer, select that layer in the Layers panel, then select Refresh in the Discover panel.
Refine the artistic effect
After applying the quick action, you can fine-tune the result through Neural Filters for more control over the artistic style.
Select Filter > Neural Filters from the menu or press (Alt + Ctrl + F).
In the Neural Filters dialog box, select a preset of your choice.
Adjust the Strength to control the intensity of the brushstroke effect.
Adjust the Style Opacity and other parameters to refine the overall appearance of the swirling night sky effect.
Select OK.
To undo all changes made by the quick action at once, select Revert in the Discover panel. To explore additional creative effects, select Browse more quick actions.
