Troubleshoot Photoshop droplets on Windows

Last updated on Oct 4, 2026

Learn how to troubleshoot issues when running Photoshop droplets on Windows.

Droplets are standalone applications that automate batch processing tasks in Photoshop. If a droplet doesn't work as expected on Windows, try the following solutions.

Make sure Photoshop is up to date

Keep Photoshop up to date to make sure you're using the latest version.

Set the correct permissions for your droplets

Cause

Droplets must run at the same User Account Control (UAC) level as Photoshop.

Quick method

If you have administrator access:

  1. Right-click the droplet and select Run as administrator.
  2. Restart Photoshop.

Alternate method

  1. Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings.
  2. Move the slider to Never Notify.
  3. Restart the operating system if you're using a non-administrator account.
  4. Sign in using an administrator account and run the droplet once.
  5. Sign back in using your standard user account.
  6. Return to Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings, and move the slider back to your preferred security level.

The droplet should continue to work after UAC is turned back on.

Uninstall and reinstall Photoshop

Cause

A damaged registry or Photoshop installation can prevent droplets from communicating with Photoshop.

Remedy

Uninstall Photoshop, and then reinstall the version you want to keep. Follow the instructions to uninstall or remove Creative Cloud apps.

Note

Droplets can lose their connection to Photoshop if the last action you perform is uninstalling a Photoshop version. If you remove one version and keep another, reinstall the version you want to keep. You can keep multiple Photoshop versions installed, but the last action should be an installation, not an uninstallation.
