Select skies in images

Last updated on Oct 4, 2026

Use the Select sky quick action to automatically isolate sky areas with a single click.

The Select sky quick action uses AI to automatically detect and select sky regions in your images. Use it to isolate skies for adjustments, replacements, or compositing without manual masking. This works best on images with clear boundaries between the sky and foreground.

Note

Requires Adobe Photoshop 23.0.1 or later.

Select sky in your image

Open your image in Photoshop.

Select the search icon in the upper-right corner of the workspace, or press Ctrl + F (Windows) or Command + F (macOS), or select Help > Photoshop Help.

In the Discover panel, select Browse > Quick Actions, then select Select sky.

Select Apply to create an active selection of the sky area in your image.

Once selected, you can apply adjustments, replace it with another sky, or use the selection as a layer mask.

Select sky on a different layer

If your document contains multiple layers and you need to select the sky on a different layer:

In the Layers panel, select the layer containing the sky you want to select.

In the Discover panel, select Refresh to reapply the Select sky action to the active layer.

To undo the applied changes, select Revert in the Discover panel.

For additional quick actions, select Browse more quick actions.
