Color readout display modes

The Info panel displays color values in different bit depths and modes depending on your panel options settings.

Display mode

Description

8-bit

Standard color depth showing values 0-255 per channel.

16-bit

Extended color depth showing values 0-32768 per channel.

32-bit

High dynamic range (HDR) displayed as floating-point values.

CMYK with gamut warning

Displays an exclamation point (!) next to CMYK values when the color under the pointer or a color sampler falls outside the CMYK gamut.

Tool-specific display values

Different tools report distinct measurement and position data in the Info panel.

Selection and cropping tools

Marquee tools (Rectangular, Elliptical)

  • x and y coordinates of pointer position
  • Width (W) and height (H) of the marquee as you drag
  • Width and height of active selection

Crop tool

  • Width (W) and height (H) of the crop border as you drag
  • Angle of rotation of the crop marquee

Zoom tool

Width (W) and height (H) of zoom marquee as you drag

Drawing and path tools

Transformation display values

  • Percentage change in width (W) and height (H)
  • Angle of rotation (A)
  • Angle of horizontal skew (H) or vertical skew (V)

Moving selections

  • x and y coordinates of starting position
  • Change in X (DX) and change in Y (DY)
  • Angle (A)
  • Length (D) as you drag

Color adjustment display values

When using color adjustment dialog boxes, the Info panel displays before-and-after color values.

Context

Values displayed

Color adjustments (Curves, Levels, and Hue/Saturation)

  • Before values (left column) showing original color
  • After values (right column) showing adjusted color
  • Values for pixels beneath the pointer and any color samplers

Additional Info panel displays

Beyond tool-specific measurements, the Info panel can show document status information.

Document Sizes

  • Amount of data in the image

Document Profile

Name of the color profile used by the image

Document Dimensions

GPU Mode

Active GPU rendering mode

Compositing Mode

Shows the current layer blending calculation method being used

Measurement Scale

Displays the measurement scale ratio set for the document (useful when working with technical or architectural images)

Scratch Sizes

RAM and scratch disk usage during processing

Efficiency

Percentage of time Photoshop spends processing rather than using the scratch disk

Timing

Time required to complete the last operation

Current Tool

Name of the active tool

32-bit Exposure

Provides an exposure slider for adjusting the preview of 32-bits-per-channel HDR images (only available when viewing HDR documents)

Save Progress

Shows the progress percentage when saving large files

Download Progress

Displays the download progress for cloud documents being opened

Smart Objects

Shows the number of Smart Objects in the current document

Layer Count

Displays the total number of layers in the document
