Exported images have incorrect dimensions

Learn how to fix Adobe Photoshop on desktop images or artboards that export one pixel larger than expected when you use the Export As dialog.

When exported dimensions are off by one pixel

After exporting an image or artboard using File > Export > Export As, the exported dimensions are 1 pixel larger than expected in either the width or the height. For example, exporting a 100 x 523 px document at 50% scale produces a 51 x 262 px export instead of the expected 50 x 262 px result.

Scaling produces fractional pixels

Scaling the source document produces a fractional pixel. For example, 50% of 523 pixels equals 261.5 pixels, so Photoshop rounds the value to a whole pixel and increases the other dimension by one pixel.

Adjust the source dimensions

Calculate your target export dimensions before creating the document.

Adjust the source document dimensions to avoid fractional pixels at the intended scale. Change the document from 100 x 523 px to 100 x 524 px.

Export at your desired scale.

This approach is useful when you can modify the source document dimensions.

Export dimensions round to the wrong value

The calculated export dimensions include a fractional pixel that rounds to a different whole-pixel value.

Set exact dimensions in Export As

Select File > Export > Export As.

Set Width, Height, or Scale to your desired value.

Enter Canvas Width and Canvas Height to set the exact target dimensions.

Select Export to save the file with the precise dimensions.

Delete cropped pixels

Deleting cropped pixels removes the cropped image data, which can limit your ability to adjust the crop when precise export dimensions are required.

Retain cropped pixels

Select the Crop tool from the toolbar.

In the options bar, deselect Delete Cropped Pixels.

Define your crop area, and press Enter to apply the crop.

Select File > Export > Export As to export the cropped image.

Retaining the cropped pixels lets you adjust the crop area later if you need to refine the export dimensions.
