Resize, reposition, and rotate images in the collage

Last updated on Oct 6, 2026

Use Free Transform to scale and rotate layers, then adjust stacking order in the Layers panel.

These procedures adjust individual layers within a collage. Each layer can be resized, repositioned, and rotated independently to achieve your desired composition. If the Layers panel is not visible, select Window > Layers.

Resize, reposition, and rotate a layer.

In the Layers panel, select the layer you want to adjust.

Select Edit > Free Transform. A bounding box with eight anchor points appears.

To resize the layer, drag any anchor point. Hold Shift while dragging a corner anchor point to maintain proportions.

To reposition the layer, drag inside the bounding box to a new location.

To rotate the layer, position your cursor just outside the bounding box until it changes to a curved double-headed arrow, then drag.

In the options bar, select the checkmark icon to apply the changes, or select the cancel icon to discard them.

Tip

If a layer extends beyond the canvas boundaries, drag it in any direction until you can see a corner anchor point, then use that point to resize the layer.

Change layer stacking order

In the Layers panel, select the layer you want to move.

Drag the layer above or below other layers to change how elements overlap.

Layers at the top of the panel appear in front of layers below them.

Apply these transformations independently to each layer to create your final composition. Press Ctrl + Z (Windows) or Command + Z (macOS) to undo your last transformation if needed.
