View pixel color values in an image
Use the Info panel and Color Sampler tool In Adobe Photoshop to display color values as you work to make accurate color corrections and maintain consistency.
The Info panel displays color values at your pointer location. For tracking values at specific points, Color Samplers show persistent readouts that remain visible as you work. This helps when you’re neutralizing tones, matching colors across images, or making color adjustments.
Display the Info panel
Move your pointer over the image to see color values update in real time.
The Info panel shows color values in the current working color mode. When you make adjustments, the panel displays both the original values (left column) and adjusted values (right column).
Place Color Samplers
Select the Eyedropper tool from the toolbar, then Shift-click anywhere in your image to place a Color Sampler.
Place up to four samplers at locations you want to monitor.
View the sampler readouts in the lower section of the Info panel.
Adjust Color Sampler settings
The sample size setting determines whether you read a single pixel or an average of surrounding pixels.
Configure the sample size
When you select the Eyedropper or Color Sampler tool, find the Sample Size menu in the options bar.
Select Point Sample to read individual pixels, or choose an average option like 3 by 3 Average or 5 by 5 Average for smoother readings.
Averaging options reduce the impact of noise or minor color variations.
Manage Color Samplers
After placing the samplers, you can move or remove them.
Move or delete Color Samplers
Select the Color Sampler tool from the toolbar.
Drag a sampler to a new location, or drag it outside the document window to delete it.
To delete all samplers at once, select Clear in the options bar.
To temporarily hide Color Samplers without deleting them, select View > Extras. Select the command again to show them.
Change the color space display
You can adjust how the Info panel displays color values for each sampler.
Modify the sampler color space
In the Info panel, move your pointer over the small icon next to a sampler readout.
Hold down the mouse button and select a different color space from the menu, such as RGB, CMYK, Lab, or Grayscale.
This allows you to monitor values in different color spaces simultaneously, which helps when you're preparing images for different output destinations.
