Create documents from Adobe Stock templates

Last updated on Oct 5, 2026

Use pre-designed templates with stock assets to jump-start creative projects.

Adobe Stock templates provide professionally designed starting points with built-in assets, layouts, and design elements. When you open a template, Photoshop creates an editable copy as a standard document, letting you customize the design while preserving the original template.

Use this workflow when you want to start from a professionally designed template rather than a blank canvas or preset. Templates include stock photos, illustrations, and graphics organized in editable layers. For creating documents from blank presets with predefined dimensions, see Create documents using presets.

Templates are organized into categories such as Photo, Print, Art & Illustration, Web, Mobile, and Film & Video, making it easy to find designs suited to your project type.

  • Adobe Photoshop 2017 release or later
  • Active internet connection for browsing and licensing templates
  • Adobe Stock entitlements or credits (for licensing templates you want to use)

Browse and preview templates in the New Document dialog

Select File > New or press Ctrl+N (Windows) / Command+N (macOS).

In the New Document dialog, select a category tab such as Photo, Print, or Web.

Browse the available templates and select one that matches your project needs.

Select See Preview to view a full preview of the template before licensing.

Previewing lets you examine the template's layout, assets, and design elements to confirm it meets your requirements before licensing.

License and open the template

In the template preview, select Download.

Review the Adobe Stock licensing prompt and complete the licensing process using your available entitlements or credits.

Select Open once the licensing completes.

Select OK if prompted to sync fonts from Adobe Fonts.

Photoshop opens an instance of the template as a .psd document. You can now edit layers, replace images, modify text, and customize the design, the changes affect only the working copy while original template remains unchanged.

Note

Licensed templates are automatically added to a Creative Cloud library called Stock Templates. Access this library through Window > Assets (Creative Cloud Libraries).

Search for additional templates on Adobe Stock

The New Document dialog displays a curated selection of templates. To access the complete Adobe Stock template library:

Find more templates online

In the New Document dialog, locate the Find More Templates On Adobe Stock search box.

Enter keywords describing your project needs, or select Go to browse all available templates.

The Adobe Stock website opens in your browser. Search, filter, and preview the full template collection.

License and download templates directly from the Adobe Stock website to add them to your Stock Templates library.

Templates downloaded from the Adobe Stock website appear in your Stock Templates library within Photoshop, accessible through the Assets panel.

Understanding template formats

Templates in Photoshop use the .psdt filename extension. When you open a template, Photoshop creates a working instance as a .psd document. This architecture means:

  • Your edits apply only to the .psd working copy
  • The original .psdt template remains unchanged and reusable
  • You can create multiple projects from the same template
  • Standard .psd files can be saved, shared, and reopened like any Photoshop document
Note

Templates downloaded in Adobe Photoshop (.psdt) and Adobe Illustrator (.ait) are both stored in Creative Cloud Libraries but are application specific.
