Synchronize zoom and location across multiple views in Photoshop.
Learn how to use multiple windows to compare different images side by side, view the same image at different zoom levels, or work on one area while monitoring changes elsewhere. You can arrange windows in preset layouts and synchronize their zoom level or scroll position to maintain consistent viewing across all open windows.
Most synchronization features require multiple open windows. You can either open two or more different images, or create multiple windows of the same image to view it at different zoom levels or with different display settings.
Open additional windows for an image
Select Window > Arrange and choose an option from the menu to arrange the newly opened windows.
Note
The number of windows you can open per image is limited to available memory.
Each window displays the same image but can show different zoom levels, color modes, or layer visibility settings. Changes made in one window update instantly in all other windows for that image.
Arrange multiple windows
Open two or more images, or open one image in multiple windows.
Select Window > Arrange
Choose one of the following layout options:
- Cascade: Stacks undocked windows from upper-left to lower-right
- Tile: Displays windows edge to edge and resizes them as you close images
- Float in Window: Allows the active image to float freely
- Float All in Windows: Floats all open images
- Consolidate All to Tabs: Displays one image in full screen and minimizes others to tabs.
Synchronize zoom across windows
Open two or more images, or open one image in multiple windows.
Select Window > Arrange > Tile to display images edge to edge.
Select the Zoom tool from the toolbar.
Select Zoom All Windows in the options bar.
Click any image to zoom in or out. All visible images zoom by the same relative amount.
Note
Alternative method: Select Window > Arrange > Match Zoom, hold Shift, and click one image. All other images zoom to the same magnification percentage.
Synchronize location across windows
Open two or more images, or open one image in multiple windows.
Select Window > Arrange > Tile.
Select Window > Arrange > Match Location.
You can also select the Hand tool , enable Scroll All Windows in the options bar, and drag in any image to scroll all visible images to the corresponding location. To temporarily enable this option without selecting it, hold Shift while dragging with the Hand tool.
Note
Photoshop scrolls to the same relative position on horizontal and vertical axes. You may need to manually scroll to reveal edges of images with different dimensions.
Synchronize zoom and location simultaneously
Open two or more images, or open one image in multiple windows.
Select Window > Arrange > Tile.
Select Window > Arrange > Match All.
Select the Zoom tool or the Hand tool .
Hold Shift and click in or drag an area of any image. All other images magnify to the same percentage and snap to the area you selected.
