Edit images with Generative Fill

Use text prompts to alter an image non-destructively with Generative Fill in Adobe Photoshop.

Select the area to transform with Generative Fill.

Use a selection tool, like the Selection Brush  , to define the area you want to edit.

Select Generative Fill  .

In the Contextual Task Bar, select an Adobe Firefly model or a partner AI model from the model picker.

  • Adobe models: Firefly Fill & ExpandFirefly Image 3Firefly Image 1
  • Partner models: Gemini 3 (with Nano Banana Pro), Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana), FLUX.2 pro, and FLUX.1 Kontext [pro]

Enter a text prompt describing what you want to generate, or leave it blank to let Photoshop seamlessly fill the selection using surrounding pixels.

Select Generate  , then choose a variation from the Properties panel. 

Note
  • Generative Fill with an Adobe Firefly model is a standard feature and deducts 1 credit per generation.
  • Generative Fill, powered by partner AI models, are premium features:
    • Gemini 3 (with Nano Banana Pro) = 40 credits
    • Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana) = 10 credits
    • FLUX.2 pro = 20 credits
    • FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] = 10 credits
