Check and correct spelling

Learn how to check and correct spelling using Photoshop.

Editing text on existing type layers lets you fix typos and update content without recreating layers. Changes preserve formatting, effects, and layer styles.

Before you begin
  • Have Photoshop 2020 or higher
  • Assign an appropriate language dictionary
  • Confirm the text layer is editable

Set the language dictionary

Select a text layer, specific text, or a character.

Open the Character panel.

Select a language from the language selection drop-down.

Note

Assign a single language before running spell check. If multiple languages are used, the field displays Multiple.

Run spell check and correct errors

Select Edit > Check Spelling

Select the Check All Layers checkbox to check all layers, or deselect it to check only the selected layer.

For each flagged word, choose an action.

Spell check dialog actions

Ignore: Continues checking without changing the current word.

Ignore All: Skips all instances of the current word for the rest of the spell check session.

Change: Corrects the current misspelled word. Verify the correction or type the correct word directly.

Change All: Corrects all instances of the misspellings throughout your document. Verify the corrections before selecting the option.

Add: Stores the word in your personal dictionary and excludes it from future spell checks.
