Save images in PNG and GIF formats

Last updated on Oct 10, 2026

Export images as PNG or GIF files to use them on the web with transparency, animation, or optimized file sizes.

PNG supports transparency and works well for logos, icons, and detailed images. GIFs support simple animations and work best with limited colors. The PNG format supports RGB, Indexed Color, Grayscale, and Bitmap modes. GIF format creates animated graphics from documents with multiple frames.

For faster exports, select File > Export > Quick Export as.

You can also select layers in the Layers panel, right-click, and choose Quick Export or Export As.

Save an image as PNG

Select File > Save As and choose PNG from the Format menu.

Enter a filename and select a destination folder, then select Save.

Select an Interlace option:

None: Displays the image only when the download is complete

Interlaced: Displays low-resolution versions as the file downloads

Select OK.

Note

Interlacing makes download time appear shorter, but increases file size

Tip

Save a working copy in PSD format before exporting to preserve layers, effects, and editing capability.

Save an image as a GIF

Select File > Save As and choose GIF from the Format menu.

Enter a filename and select a save location.

In the GIF Save Options dialog, specify how to handle frames and animation.

Select OK.
