Print images from Photoshop

Learn how to send images to your printer and configure output settings in Adobe Photoshop on desktop.

Photoshop provides printing options that let you send images directly to desktop printers, inkjet printers, or PostScript-compatible devices.

Use these procedures when you're ready to output your image to a physical printer. For adjusting how images are positioned or scaled on the page, see the Position and scale images for printing topic.

Print with customizable options

Use the Print dialog box to preview your output, select a printer, and configure detailed print settings before sending the file.

Select File > Print.

Select your printer from the printer menu.

Enter the number of copies you want to print.

Select your preferred layout orientation (portrait or landscape).

Review image in the preview area.

Configure any additional options such as Color Management, Printing Marks, or PostScript Options.

Select Print to send the image to your printer.

Photoshop saves your customized print settings as defaults when you select Done or Print. These settings will apply to future print jobs unless modified. The shaded border in the preview area represents the paper margins; the white area shows the printable region. Your image's position and scale within this area can be adjusted using the Position and Size options.

On macOS, expand the Color Management section and select Send 16-bit Data to achieve the highest quality in images with subtle tonal gradations, such as skies or gradients.

Print one copy quickly

Skip the Print dialog box and send one copy directly to your default printer using the current print settings. Select File > Print One Copy from your most recent print job, including all configured options.

Include the Print command in actions to automate printing workflows. Photoshop consolidates all print settings into a single dialog box, making it efficient to record and replay printing steps.

Print a selected area

Print only a portion of your image by creating a selection with the Rectangle Marquee tool.

Select the Rectangle Marquee tool.

Drag to select the area of the image you want to print.

Select File > Print.

Select Print Selected Area checkbox under Position and Size option.

Adjust the selected area within the perimeter of the print preview.

Select Print to output only the selected portion of your image.

Include vector data for sharp edges

When printing images that contain vector elements such as shapes or type layers, enable vector data output to ensure these elements print at your printer's maximum resolution.

Select File > Print.

Select PostScript Options.

Select Include Vector Data checkbox.

Select Print.

When you enable this option, Photoshop sends separate image data to the printer for each type layer and vector shape layer. These elements are printed on top of the base image and clipped using their vector outlines. This ensures that the edges of vector graphics print at the printer's full resolution, even though the raster content within each layer is limited to your image file's resolution.

Some blending modes and layer effects require rasterized vector data and may not benefit from this option. PostScript printers must support vector data output.
