For exporting as an image sequence instead, use Photoshop Image Sequence in the Render Video dialog.

Understanding format options

Adobe Media Encoder offers three primary format options, each designed for different workflows and delivery requirements:

DPX (Digital Picture Exchange): Exports frame sequences designed for integration into professional video projects using editors such as Adobe Premiere Pro. DPX maintains high quality and is standard in professional post-production workflows.

H.264 (MPEG-4): The most versatile option. H.264 provides presets for high-definition video, widescreen formats, and output for tablets and web delivery. This format balances quality with manageable file sizes for streaming and sharing.

QuickTime (MOV): Required when exporting alpha channels or uncompressed video. The Preset menu offers additional compression options while maintaining QuickTime's flexibility for transparency and professional editing workflows.

Tip

Preview a short test render before exporting your entire project to verify format settings meet your quality and compatibility requirements.
