Co-edit documents with Creative collaboration

Last updated on Oct 10, 2026

Learn how to enable real-time collaborative editing by inviting team members to work simultaneously on cloud documents.

Creative collaboration transforms how design teams work together by enabling multiple people to edit the same document at once. You'll see which collaborators have joined, the layers they're editing, and their changes in the History panel—making coordination seamless and reducing version control issues.

This feature is currently in public beta and available in Adobe Photoshop Beta on desktop and Photoshop on the web. It's being gradually rolled out to users and supports most used Photoshop tools and workflows. Use this procedure when you need real-time collaboration rather than asynchronous editing with Invite to edit.

Before starting a collaborative session, verify that you have Photoshop Beta installed on desktop or access to Photoshop on the web through a supported browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox). All collaborators will need Adobe accounts and access to either platform.

  • Photoshop Beta desktop application or Photoshop on the web
  • Document ready to share
  • Active internet connection for cloud synchronization
  • Adobe account credentials for all collaborators
  • Supported web browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) for web-based editing

Enable Creative collaboration in Photoshop Beta on desktop

Select File > Open to browse and open your document in Photoshop Beta.

Make any initial edits to prepare the document for collaboration.

Select Invite in the toolbar.

Select Invite to get started with Creative collaboration and invite multiple stakeholders for collaborative documents.

In the Save to Creative Cloud dialog box, select Turn on Creative collaboration to prepare the document for cloud saving.

Select Creative collaboration to share and edit collaborative documents.

Choose your preferred cloud storage location, then select Save.

In the Share document dialog box, enter the names or email addresses of team members you want to invite.

Select Invite to edit to send invitations.

Tip

If you have an Enterprise or Teams subscription, you can type collaborator names instead of email addresses. To control access more precisely, adjust the Who has access dropdown to choose between specific people, your organization, or anyone with the link.

Note

Files using Creative collaboration may not support all Photoshop features. Quit the public Photoshop application before opening collaborative documents in Photoshop Beta to ensure a successful experience.

In the Share document dialog box, enter names or email addresses to enable effective collaboration.

Enable Creative collaboration in Photoshop on the web

Open an existing document or create a new document in Photoshop on the web.

Select Creative collaboration beta in the toolbar.

Use Creative collaboration (beta) to invite multiple stakeholders for editing collaborative documents.

In the Turn on Creative collaboration beta dialog box, select Turn on.

Enable Creative collaboration to share and edit collaborative documents.

In the Share document dialog box, enter the names or email addresses of team members you want to invite.

Select Invite as editor to send invitations.

Tip

When configuring access settings, choose the option that best fits your security requirements. Only invited people can access limited access to specific individuals, everyone at [Organization name] grants access to all users within your organization, and Anyone with the link allows anyone with the link to access the content.

In the Share document dialog box, you can enter the names or email addresses of design partners to enable effective collaboration.

Join a collaborative document

When someone invites you to collaborate, you'll receive a notification in Photoshop on the web along with an email containing a link to the document. Open the email and select Open to view the document in Photoshop on the web, where you can begin editing immediately.

To work in Photoshop Beta on desktop instead, select Send to apps > Open in Photoshop Beta from the web interface. This launches the document directly in the desktop application.

Open Photoshop (Beta) directly from the Photoshop web to edit shared documents.

Monitor collaborator activity

Once team members join your collaborative session, visual indicators throughout the workspace show their activity. Collaborator avatars appear next to the zoom level, showing who's currently active. The Layers panel displays presence indicators next to layers that collaborators are actively editing. For a selective set of tools, you can also see which tools other collaborators are using in real time.

These presence indicators help you coordinate work and avoid editing conflicts by showing where team members are focusing their efforts.

Unsupported features

Creative collaboration beta doesn't currently support these Photoshop features: 3D, character styles, paragraph styles, framed groups, print settings, saved custom channels, layer comps, pen tool paths, XMP metadata, path panel, frame animation, Selection Brush tool, video timeline, Content Credentials, annotation tools, artboards, and linked smart objects.

Tip

To work around the artboard limitation, create multiple documents for different design versions instead of using artboards within a single file. Arrange windows by selecting Window > Arrange > Tile All Vertically, 2-up Vertical, or 3-up Vertical to view all documents simultaneously.
