Use text prompts to alter an image non-destructively with Generative Fill in Adobe Photoshop on desktop.
Select the area to transform with Generative Fill.
Use a selection tool, like the Selection Brush , to define the area you want to edit.
Select Generative Fill .
In the Contextual Task Bar, select an Adobe Firefly model or a partner AI model from the model picker.
- Adobe models: Firefly Image 5, Firefly Fill & Expand, Firefly Image 1
- Partner models: Gemini 3.1 (with Nano Banana 2), Gemini 3 (with Nano Banana Pro), FLUX.2 pro, and FLUX.1 Kontext [pro]
Note
Google is deprecating Gemini 2.5 (with Nano Banana) starting October 2, 2026. Photoshop will begin removing this model support on September 10 and with the September 2026 build (v27.11) and later versions. For more information, refer to Generative AI model retirement.
