Spring-loaded tool shortcuts in Photoshop let you temporarily switch to a tool by holding its shortcut key. When you release the key, Photoshop automatically returns to your previous tool. This feature streamlines your workflow, especially for quick adjustments.
Switch tools with shortcut keys
To temporarily access another tool, press and hold its shortcut key.
Tip
For example, hold V while using the Brush tool to temporarily switch to the Move tool, and release it to return to the Brush tool.
Use the temporary tool to edit while holding down the shortcut key.
Release the shortcut key to return to your primary tool.
Customize spring-loaded shortcut timing
You can adjust how quickly Photoshop switches to a spring-loaded tool by changing the delay setting.
Select Edit > Preferences > Tools (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > Tools (macOS).
In the Preferences dialog box, ensure that the Spring-loaded Tool shortcuts is selected. it's turned on by default.
Drag the slider to adjust the delay time. A shorter delay means the tool switches faster when you press the key. The default is 200 milliseconds.
Select OK to save your changes.
