Blend objects and people into any background with Harmonize

Last updated on Feb 23, 2026

Learn how to blend objects and people into any background in Adobe Photoshop on desktop with Harmonize.

Match the color, lighting, shadows, and tone of a subject with Harmonize, powered by Adobe Firefly. Harmonize automatically adjusts your subject to blend with its background, making composites look natural and removing the need for manual color and lighting adjustments.

Before you begin:

Make sure your subject is on a pixel layer, as Harmonize only works on pixel layers (not Smart Objects, text, or adjustment layers).

Select File > Open to open a background image.

Select File > Place Embedded to place the subject onto a new layer above the background.

Tip
  • Select Remove Background from the Contextual Task Bar to remove the subject background.
  • Position and scale the object to fit with the background.

Select Harmonize in the Contextual Task Bar and choose the variation that best blends with the background.

Note

Harmonize is a standard feature and consumes 5 credits per generation. Learn more about how many generative credits are included in your plan.
