Replace background with Generate background

Use text prompts to create custom backgrounds for your images or designs. 

Try out the latest features and enhancements.

Use Generate background  to replace the background of your image with generated content that matches the lighting, shadows, and perspective of the subject.

You can also import another image from your device and use it as a background or select the color fill option to change the background.

Generate background is now powered by the latest Adobe Firefly Image Model, which yields results with greatly improved photorealistic quality, has a better understanding of complex prompts, and generates more variety in results, so you can explore different directions.

  1. Launch the Photoshop on desktop app and select New file to open a blank canvas.

  2. Select Import image from the Contextual Task Bar to use an image from your device. Select Done

  3. Select Remove background in the Contextual Task Bar that appears. 

  4. Select Generate background in the Contextual Task Bar and enter a descriptive text prompt, or keep the text prompt box empty. 

    Use the color fill icon    to change the background to a desired color. 

    Use Import background to import another image from your device and use it as a background.

  5. Select Generate   and choose from the generated variations that appear in the Properties panel. 

  6. (Optional) To generate additional variations, modify the text prompt and select Generate in the Properties panel.
