Upload a reference image to visually guide and help Photoshop generate more relevant and customized variations. Pairing the image with a descriptive text prompt gives you greater control over your generated results.

Reference Image   is most useful when you want to integrate specific styles or details that are hard to describe.

Reference Image informs the content of Generative Fill and Generative Expand and informs the style of results from Generate image.

Upload a reference image to generate more relevant and customized variations

  1. Generate an object or visual asset using any of the generative workflows, such as Generative Fill

  2. Select the Reference image icon   from the Contextual Task Bar or Properties panel, then Choose image to upload your desired image.

Pair this image with descriptive text prompts, if necessary.

    Note:

When the reference image is successfully uploaded, a blue tick appears beside the icon  , and its thumbnail can be viewed in the Properties panel.

  3. Select Generate and choose from the variations that appear in the Properties panel.
